What do we really know about the sprawling mechanism that stocks our supermarket shelves and fills our kitchens?...

In Food for Thought, my husband Rod, our two-year-old daughter Ella, and I, Lilach, set out across America with a single purpose: to learn about the food we eat by tracing its path from the barns and the fields to our dinner tables. In five months we travel 15,000 miles through 28 states talking to farmers, consumers, activists, and innovators. We see—firsthand, and in ways we never even imagined—the impact of our food choices on our health, the environment, and entire communities.
